12000 laptops lost weekly in US airports. 67% stay lost.

Business Travellers lose 12,000 laptops weekly in USA airports, according to a Dell sponsored Ponemon Institute research piece..

42% of data breached in the US are due to lost or stolen mobile devices such as laptops.
Los Angeles Airport (LAX) experiences the greatest number of weekly losses with a figure of 1200.

Only 33% of laptops in lost & found departments are recovered. At an estimated value of $1000 per week that is asset value loss of $800,000 per week, apart from the impact of loss of data.

Although 53% have confidential information on the laptops,65% of business travellers do not take any measures to protect their laptops when travelling.

A sobering 57% of business travellers worry about losing their laptops.
